RedTiger F17 Elite Dashcam Review

🏁 Introduction

The RedTiger F17 Elite is one of the most advanced dash cams in the RedTiger lineup, offering 4K front recording, 2.5K rear, and a full-color interior camera. For drivers who want complete visibility around their vehicle — day or night — this camera promises top-tier clarity, smart features, and easy usability.

Installation & Setup

The hardwire installation was simple and straightforward. The kit included everything needed to get the dashcam up and running — all the fuses, cables, and connectors were provided, making the process quick and hassle-free.

Voice Control

The voice control feature was smooth and intuitive to use. Commands registered accurately, and it added a hands-free convenience that’s especially useful while driving.

Examples of voice commands:
  • “Turn on screen” or “Turn off screen”
  • “Take picture”
  • “Show front camera”
  • “Show rear camera”
  • “Lock the video”
  • “Enable Wi-Fi” or “Turn on Wi-Fi”
  • “Turn off Wi-Fi”
  • “Stop recording”
  • “Turn on audio”
  • “Turn off audio”

🎥 Video Quality & Sensors

The front camera uses a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, delivering crisp 4K video that captures license plates, signage, and road details with precision. The rear camera records in 2.5K, maintaining solid detail across varied lighting conditions.

Where the F17 Elite really shines is inside the cabin. Unlike traditional infrared cameras that switch to black and white in the dark, the interior camera records in full color, providing realistic night vision with vibrant accuracy — a huge plus for rideshare drivers or those who frequently drive at night.

🌙 Night Vision Performance

The F17 Elite’s low-light capability is among the best in its class. Even under dim streetlights, details remain sharp and glare from headlights is minimal. This makes it especially effective in urban environments, parking lots, and nighttime commutes.

⚙️ Features & Usability

  • Wi-Fi 6: Faster downloads directly to your phone via the RedTiger Cam app.

  • Built-in GPS: Tracks speed and location for added evidence in the event of an incident.

  • Voice Control: Simple commands like “turn screen off” or “show rear camera.”

  • G-Sensor & Loop Recording: Automatically saves footage in case of impact.

  • Parking Monitor (with hardwire kit): Enables motion and impact detection even when your car is off.

The touchscreen interface is bright, responsive, and easy to navigate — ideal even for first-time dash cam users.

🧰 Installation & Build

Installation is straightforward using the included 12V adapter or optional Redtiger hardwire kit for continuous power and parking surveillance. The compact design sits neatly behind the rearview mirror, and the materials feel premium and durable.

During testing, a 128GB SD card held roughly 2–3 days of footage before looping, so larger cards are recommended for extended recording.

I went with a 512GB micro SD card and had no issues with it.

⚠️ Potential Drawbacks

  • Overheating can occur in extreme heat or direct sunlight.

  • Rear camera brightness may be affected by darker window tints.

  • Sensitive Voice Commands The Wifi turned on several times while listening to podcasts about tech.  The voice recorder also turned off a few times even though I like to keep it on for vlogging commentary.

💭 Final Thoughts

Overall, the F17 Elite Dashcam delivers excellent value for its price. Compared to the Viofo A229 Pro, it comes in nearly $100 cheaper while still offering premium performance. The touchscreen works fantasticly in person — sharp, bright, and highly responsive.  It’s smooth as butter.  Audio quality is clear, and the video captures are crisp enough to easily read license plates both day and night.

The only area that could use improvement is the rear camera, which performs adequately but isn’t as sharp as the front — though that’s common in many dashcams. Aside from that, the F17 Elite stands out as a solid buy for anyone looking for a reliable, feature-packed dashcam at a great price.  The cabin camera will come in handy for those in the gig economy who may drive for Uber or Lyft etc.  Plus if you have a teen like I do and they are learning to drive, you can keep an eye on them in case they are texting or not paying attention while driving.

The RedTiger F17 Elite stands out for its balanced performance, high-resolution recording, and revolutionary full-color night vision. It’s ideal for anyone who wants complete vehicle coverage with strong image quality and smart connectivity.

If you’re looking for a feature-rich dash cam with modern tech and dependable results, the F17 Elite is absolutely worth considering.
